What is a Farmshield?
The FarmShield™ is the brain of the farm and shields the farm from any adverse conditions. It combines data from our trademarked FarmSpears, and checks if anything has exceeded the required levels in the farm and if so, takes the necessary action to correct it.
How do you install a Farmshield and where?
A Farmshield can be installed either in a greenhouse or in an open farm. For an open farm, it can monitor crops up to 5 hectares of land.
We install two stand alone sensors we call the Farmspears into the ground. The Farmspear houses the following sensors and equipment:
- Soil moisture sensor
- Soil temperature sensor
- Air humidity sensor
- Air temperature sensor
- Light intensity sensor
- Water flow meter to monitor irrigation
- NPK nutrient sensor (Nitrogen, Phosphorous, Potassium)
- Solar panel and battery
How Does a Farmshield Work?
The installed Farmspears collect data on the state of the greenhouse and sends it to the Farmshield. The Farmshield is the brain of the farm, it takes in the data, interprets it and informs on the necessary actions to take such as:
- Opening and closing of the irrigation system to let water flow into the farm.
- Actuating the greenhouse fans to evacuate humidity incase the humidity sensors report high humidity levels
- Opening and closing of the greenhouse side ventilation if the air temperature sensors reports high temperature levels.
- Timely alerts on low or high levels of NPK in the soil.
All the data collected is stored on an inbuilt memory and is sent to the cloud where is it analyzed and displayed on our dashboard. The dashboard displays real time information of your farm and is accessible by our app, web portal or USSD.
